How many hand-wash stations do I need?
Plan 1 two-sink hand-wash station for every 4 porta potties when food is served, and 1 for every 6 without food. Kids' events, petting zoos and food trucks need at least 1 station even with only 1 toilet. A 10-toilet food festival needs 3 stations.
Run the numbers in the porta potty and sink calculator.
What comes with a portable hand-wash station?
A portable hand-wash station has two basins, two foot pumps, a fresh-water tank of about 30 gallons, a grey-water tank, soap dispensers and paper towel holders. Guests pump water with their foot, so they touch nothing. A full tank supports several hundred hand washes.

Do jobsites need hand-wash stations?
Jobsites must provide handwashing under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51, paragraph (f), where workers are exposed to contaminants. Most contractors add one station near the toilets and the break area. Weekly service refills water, soap and towels. Freezing weather needs extra care, so ask about winter options.
Hand sanitizer or a sink?
Hand sanitizer works for clean hands but does not remove dirt, grease, paint or food. A sink with soap and water is better for food service, kids, farm animals and crews. Every standard porta potty has sanitizer inside. Flushing units include a sink inside, which can replace an outside station for small groups.
Questions about hand-wash stations
Can I rent a hand-wash station without a toilet?
Stand-alone stations are available for food trucks, farm stands, schools and outdoor classrooms. Delivery is cheaper when it rides with other units.
Is the water drinkable?
The fresh water is clean tap water, but the station is for handwashing only. Provide bottled water for drinking.
What happens in freezing weather?
Hand-wash stations can freeze below 32°F. Winter jobsites can use foam sanitizer stations or keep a station in a heated space. Ask when you book.
How often is the water refilled?
Weekly service refills water, soap and towels. Busy events can add a mid-event refill.
